San Jose rent increases limited to 5%

I've mentioned over the past year on the blog that San Jose has been going through quite a bit in helping increase the number of affordable housing in the area by requiring a certain number of units in new developments be set aside for those with lower incomes.  Earlier this month, the city council has voted to reduce the rent increase cap to 5% on April 19, 2016 for rentals in the city. HUD prohibits landlords from banning tenants with a criminal history

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently released new guidance for the Fair Housing Act (the Act). The new guidelines prohibit landlords from implementing blanket bans against prospective tenants who have a criminal history.
